Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 11, 2026
StatePrep is designed for children. We collect only what is necessary to provide the service, we never show ads, and we never sell your data.
1. Who We Are
StatePrep is operated by RiyaReena LLC, Ohio, United States. You can reach us at support@stateprep.app.
2. Who This Policy Applies To
This policy applies to parents, guardians, and any adult who creates an account and uses StatePrep on behalf of a child. Children do not create accounts directly — a parent or guardian creates the account and adds child profiles.
3. Information We Collect
Account information (parent/guardian):
- Email address — collected when you sign in with Apple or Google
- Name — provided by Apple or Google Sign-In
Child profile information:
- Child's first name (entered by parent)
- Grade level (3–8, selected by parent)
- Avatar color (a display color chosen by the parent — no image or photo is collected)
- Quiz results and progress for each child
Purchase information:
- Which grade unlocks have been purchased, identified by state and grade level (e.g. Ohio Grade 5) — stored to restore purchases across devices
- State swap grants — if a parent moves a grade unlock to a different state, that grant is stored in our database linked to the parent account
- We do not collect or store payment card details. All payments are handled by Apple In-App Purchase.
Location information (optional):
- If you grant location permission, we use your device's approximate location to automatically identify your US state and display it at the top of the state list for quick access
- Your geographic coordinates are processed by Apple's on-device geocoding service (CLGeocoder) and are not transmitted to or stored by us — only the resulting state name abbreviation (e.g. "OH") is saved locally on your device
- Location permission is optional. You can deny it and select your state manually at any time
Technical information:
- App version and device type — used to diagnose technical issues
- A free-trial usage counter is stored in iOS Keychain to track the number of practice questions answered before purchase. This counter contains no personal information and persists when the app is deleted and reinstalled
- We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA) or third-party trackers
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
StatePrep is designed for use by children ages 8–14 under parental supervision. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation for children (GDPR-K).
Parental consent gate: Before the app can be used for the first time, a parent or guardian must confirm they are 13 years of age or older and agree to this Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. This in-app consent gate is the mechanism through which we obtain parental consent as required by COPPA.
- Children do not create accounts. Only parents or guardians register and manage the account.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
- Child profiles contain only a first name and grade level (3–8), entered by the parent or guardian. No email address, phone number, or precise location is collected from or linked to a child profile.
- Location data, if collected, is tied to the parent's device and account — not to any child profile.
- We do not show ads to any user, including children.
- We do not share child profile data with third parties for marketing, advertising, or any commercial purpose.
- We do not use behavioral tracking, cross-app tracking, or interest-based profiling.
Parental rights: Parents and guardians may at any time:
- Review the personal information associated with their account and child profiles
- Correct or update child profile information within the app
- Delete a child profile within the app (Profile → My Kids → Delete)
- Delete their entire account and all associated data within the app (Profile → Delete Account)
- Contact us directly at support@stateprep.app to request data access, correction, or deletion
5. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your parent account
- To display quiz content appropriate to each child's grade level
- To save and display quiz progress per child profile
- To restore purchased grade unlocks when you reinstall the app
- To apply state swap grants (moving a grade unlock to a different state) linked to your account
- To show your detected state at the top of the state list for quick access (location, on-device only)
- To enforce the free trial limit using a local Keychain counter
- To respond to support requests
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate StatePrep:
- Supabase — database and authentication backend. Account data, child profiles, quiz progress, and state swap grants are stored on servers in the United States.
- Apple Sign In — optional sign-in method. Apple's privacy policy applies.
- Google Sign In — optional sign-in method. Google's privacy policy applies.
- Apple In-App Purchase — handles all payments. We never see your payment details.
- Apple CLGeocoder — if location permission is granted, your device coordinates are sent to Apple's geocoding service to identify your US state. We receive only the state name; coordinates are not stored by us. Apple's privacy policy governs this processing.
We do not use analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or crash reporting tools that collect personally identifiable information.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account and child profile data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data — including child profiles and quiz history — is permanently deleted within 30 days.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correct — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Delete — request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format to transfer to another service
- Object — object to processing of your personal data where we rely on legitimate interests as the legal basis
- Withdraw consent — withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account; this does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal
To exercise these rights, use the account deletion option in the app (Settings → Delete Account) or email us at support@stateprep.app.
If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (e.g. the ICO in the UK, or your EU member state's supervisory authority).
9. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls on our database. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
10. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you by email or through a notice in the app before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
